A tricky choice ahead: whether to watch A Shot in the Dark, Return, Revenge, or Strikes Again to get your Cato action fix.

I probably like the attacks in Return of the Pink Panther most; the refrigerator, the “waitress”, the wardrobe...The one in Strikes Again the main post gif is from is solid gold, though.

I can get behind “all of them”.

I think you kind of have to watch Strikes Again last, though, because even though they made Revenge later, for Revenge to even be possible requires Dreyfus to not be... evaporated. So, in my mind, The Pink Panther, A Shot in the Dark, Return of the Pink Panther, Revenge of the Pink Panther, Pink Panther Strikes Again is the “correct” order.

Particularly since at the end of Return Dreyfus is in the insane asylum, and in Re venge he gets released for “becoming sane” after Clouseau “dies”. The commissioner says in Revenge that Dreyfus bit him on the leg, which happens in A Shot in the Dark , so clearly Revenge comes after that... although it may be that Revenge was supposed to replace Return in the timeline.

See, Return wasn’t produced through MGM and United Artists like the rest. It was done with United Artists and ITC and the rights were in a mixup , to the point that when MGM released a Pink Panther collection in the early 2000s, they didn’t have rights to it. It wasn’t until 2006 they got the rights to include it in collections with the rest, at least in the US.

I think they all make one clean timeline if you just assume that somehow Dreyfus wasn’t able to be convicted of any of his murders in A Shot in the Dark , and after some kind of treatment made it back to being Chief Inspector.
